Unique opportunity to work as the Curator of Goodwood House and Collection

Goodwood House has been the home of the Duke of Richmond and his family for over 300 years.  Famous throughout the world for its sporting heritage, it also houses a magnificent art collection which has been formed by eleven generations. We are looking for a knowledgeable and passionate Curator to take on responsibility for the ongoing care of the Collection comprising of approximately 500 paintings, 1,000 items of furniture, tapestries, porcelain, 9,000 books, costumes and other unique items.

With a passion for art and history you will utilise your previous museum/collection experience to contribute intellectual, art historical and curatorial expertise to Goodwood through research, curating and writing. You will also be responsible for the display, conservation, valuation and insurance of the Collection along with overseeing the opening of Goodwood House to the public and the training of the House Guides.  Working closely with the Richmond family you will have the ability to build relationships with guests/VIPs along with other key stakeholders.

This is a rare and exciting opportunity to work at a unique and fascinating stately home.

What you’ll need:

  • Hands-on experience of working in a museum or with a collection
  • A passion and love of art with a demonstrable knowledge of and involvement in art
  • Good knowledge of 17th and 18th century British art
  • Good standard of education, including a relevant degree in Art History or related field
  • Experience of speaking to large audiences and groups
  • Ability to build relationships with key stakeholders and guests / VIPs.
  • Excellent PC skills, including knowledge of Microsoft Office
