About the Role

Are you interested in a career in business administration?

This is an opportunity for a self-motivated person to undertake an Apprenticeship within the Early Years Improvement Team in the Standards and Learning Effectiveness Service. This service is the council's provider of information, advice and guidance on the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) for teachers in schools and for people working in nurseries. The Early Years Team focuses on improving Ofsted outcomes and on raising children’s attainment at the end of their reception year in school.

You will be learning and training alongside experienced staff. Based predominantly in Lewes you will undertake qualifications, including a recognised Level 2 qualification, with a training provider and have a mentor or supervisor in the work place to support you.

You will gain experience in Microsoft applications, organising meetings and events, and general office administration. The training will give you the knowledge, skills and experience you will need for a future career in administration.

You will be trained and supported in a number of roles including answering phone calls from schools and early years providers, using databases, taking bookings, taking meeting notes and interacting with a variety of different staff roles with the council.

We are the largest employer in East Sussex and one of the largest in the South East, so working within our team will really give you the chance to be exposed to a wide range of work and to gain direct experience of operating within a large, complex organisation.

So if you’re thinking about a career in business administration we’d love to hear from you - this could be the ideal first step for you!

Additional Information

This post is subject to an Enhanced DBS check or Enhanced check for Regulated Activity with the Disclosure & Barring Services (previously the Criminal Records Bureau). Please note that we require evidence of an overseas police check if you have lived or worked abroad.

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is part-time or term-time only.

Work Permits: we may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Border Agency’s Points-based Immigration System.

From 6 April 2011 the Home Office has placed a permanent restriction on the number of migrant workers that all Tier 2 (General) Sponsors can recruit. Due to the restrictions we cannot guarantee that individuals that meet the requirements of the Points-based Immigration System will be issued with clearance to obtain work permits.

Equal Opportunities

East Sussex County Council is an equal opportunities employer. We welcome applications from all suitable candidates, regardless of race, gender, sexual orientation, disability or age. All applications are treated on merit.
