This is a 20 hour per week role working from 8am to 1pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays. The primary task is to work in a small team that undertakes the conservation cleaning of the objects on open display at the Royal Pavilion and Brighton Museum and Art Gallery. The historic interiors of the Royal Pavilion are also maintained by this team alongside conservator colleagues. The successful candidate will: 1) Have good manual dexterity and be confident working with important and fragile objects. 2) Have a meticulous attention to detail and the ability to maintain high standards when faced with repetitive tasks. 3) Be able to use their own initiative and problem-solving skills to plan their work, with consideration of health and safety issues to themselves and others. 3) Be happy to work at height, have the ability to safely lift and carry objects of up to 20kg, and have the energy to carry out physical work for extended periods. 4) Be proficient at working with Microsoft Office and email programmes, and willing to be trained to use the museum's Collections Management database to accurately record object condition and any treatments carried out. 5) Have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. 6) Be able to work effectively alone and also as part of a team. 7) Be happy working alongside and engaging with the public when required. 8) Be able to demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Equalities and to be able to carry out duties in accordance with the Council’s Equalities Policy. Desirable but non-essential skills are as follows: 1) A clean drivers' license and willingness to drive the museum van (C1 class vehicle) 2) Willingness to occasionally work flexible and/or additional hours 20 hours per week: 8am - 1pm, Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays Paid weeks per year: 52 (inclusive of holiday entitlement) Provisional start date: 1st August 2017 We welcome applications from all sections of the community but particularly encourage Disabled, BME and White Other applicants as people with these protected characteristics are currently under-represented in our workforce.
