With you, with the child…Every step of the way In this service we’re working together as one professional team, where you will receive a high level of support and guidance, with a shared aim of creating more positive outcomes for the children and families in our care. As a leadership team we will stand at your side, supporting you every step of the way. We are committed to the wellbeing of our staff and know you need to be your best to give your best. Effective, reflective supervision is at the heart of what we do. You are also guaranteed a minimum of 5 days per year CPD.

A message from a former CLA social worker: “To me it was a privilege to work in the children looked after service in West Sussex. I am passionate about getting the best for children who cannot be with their parents. This job enabled me to watch out for some of these children by making sure they were getting the best care from their carers, their schools, their birth family contact, making sure they understood their stories and what had happened to them and helping them feel hopeful about their future. I think the most challenging but most rewarding aspect was supporting children through the process of being permanently separated from their parents and placed with new families through adoption. It is an amazing privilege to be part of helping a child to move on to a permanent family where they are loved and see them begin to settle, flourish and repair.”– Kelly Wilkes, Pause Project Practice Lead, WSCC

What we do and what we are looking for We are looking for social workers who enjoy the challenge and rewards of court work and the satisfaction of seeing children through to their permanent placements including adoption and special guardianship. For our long term looked after children you will want to help them develop resilience, identity, recover from trauma and plan for their futures. We use both Signs of Safety and models of Developmental Trauma and Attachment to inform our assessments, interventions and care plans. There is plenty of training and guidance if these models are new to you. To assist care planning, we have a specialist multi-disciplinary assessment and intervention service to target the right intervention to help the right parent/carer and also provide evidence based reports for court. For our looked after children we have, as part of our service, a specialist in-house multi-disciplinary CAMHS and Early Therapeutic Interventions Service providing ready access to assessment and expert treatment options. We also have in development a High Risk Adolescent Project and well developed Care Leavers Service.
