Our Sustainability team is part of our recently created Energy, Waste and Environment Directorate at West Sussex County Council. With ambitions to be regarded locally and nationally as a centre of excellence in all we do, it’s an exciting time to join our team.
We’re a small, energetic and highly committed team, at the centre of our corporate structure, embedding sustainability across our organization. Whether that’s adding value to our procurement or governance procedures, advising services and partners on how to secure best value or adapt to a changing climate , influencing our members through decision processes or designing and delivering innovative projects, we’re engaged and influencing across the organization. We’re looking to strengthen our team, with someone who can help us champion the sustainability agenda and secure wider social, economic and environmental benefits.
We’re looking for someone who is motivated to seek out opportunities and demonstrate persistence to secure identified benefits. You’ll be confident and articulate talking to people from a wide range of services and disciplines, and be able to make sustainability relevant to their work. You’ll be able to influence at all levels of the organization and externally, and build your network to make this really effective. You’ll be adaptable and willing to work on a number of diverse areas, some of which may be new to you.
From a technical perspective, strong data analysis and interpretation skills are a must, and project management skills would be really useful. Current and in-depth knowledge (technical, political and legislative) in your specific discipline is essential, and we’d currently find air quality and carbon modelling really helpful.
Naturally you’ll demonstrate a high personal commitment to sustainability.
For an informal discussion about the position, or to find out more, please contact Catherine Cannon, Team Leader for Sustainability
