The West Sussex SEND Information, Advice and Support Service (SENDIAS) is seeking a SENDIAS Adviser to provide impartial information, advice and support to parents of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND), and the children and young people themselves. This role is a temporary position that involves giving information, advice and support specifically around Statements of SEN and Education, Health and Care Plans (EHC Plans), including support around appealing Local Authority decisions.

You will:
- work closely with the Independent Supporter service from the charity Amaze, to ensure this role complements the role that they are commissioned to deliver in West Sussex
- advise and support parent carers who call our busy helpline, including making home visits and attending Inclusion planning meetings
- support young people in thinking about their views, wishes and aspirations.
- support the running of the volunteer programme to ensure that parents and young people in West Sussex have access to wider support if needed
- support the delivery of parent workshops through the charity Reaching families
- liaise with professionals to encourage working with parents on positive outcomes for their child, and to ensure parents are fully informed of their child's education.

In this continually changing world of SEND, you will need to demonstrate flexibility and training in relevant law will be given to ensure you are able to give effective information, advice and support related to education, care and health services, in line with the Children and Families Act 2014 (Part 3) and the SEND Code of Practice 2015.
If you enjoy working in a passionate, hard-working and committed team and you possess excellent communication skills and an understanding of the needs of parents/carers of children with special educational needs and/or disabilities and the young people themselves, then we would like to hear from you.
The successful applicant will be based in Chichester, but will be required to travel around the county to support individuals if required.
The working hours are 22.5 a week, and the days that would be worked are open for negotiation. There will be an expectation to work the occasional evening or Saturday if there are any support group invites or events to attend and participate with.
