About the Role

Exciting Apprenticeship Opportunities at East Sussex Highways

Apply for an Apprenticeship and become a Highway Maintenance Operative or Highway Electrical Maintenance and Installation Operative

Costain and CH2M are the two companies that currently hold the East Sussex County Council Highways contract as a joint venture. We are hoping to recruit six young people to take up a two year Level 2 Highway Maintenance Skilled Operative and Level 2 Highway Electrical Maintenance & Installation Operative Apprenticeships. We would like to see applications for the roles from young men and young women.

A construction focused work readiness week will take place in Eastbourne from the 17th to 21st July to prepare potential candidates for the role. This will be led by Medway Youth Trust with sessions run by Costain, CH2M, STEM Sussex and the training provider. An interview/selection assessment day will follow at East Sussex Highways.

As an apprentice working with the joint venture, you will undertake a 2 year supervised programme of work on the job training and college day release, which leads to either Level 2 NVQ in Highway Electrical Systems or Highway Maintenance. You will be working as an apprentice for 40 hours every week, including one day a week studying at college and four days reporting to various depots across the county, Ringmer, Sidley and Heathfield. At the office you will be supporting our Operational Delivery Teams who build and manage construction projects around the county and you will be applying what you learn at college to your working day.

During the apprenticeship, you will be paid a salary of £12,000 per annum. Your performance will be reviewed regularly and if you perform well then you may have the opportunity to go onto further study and continue working with us beyond the 2 year apprenticeship.

In order to qualify for this apprenticeship you need to:

Have Level 1 Maths & English. Need to achieve Level 2 Maths & English at the end of the apprenticeship.

- Be available to attend the work readiness week from 17 July to 21 July

- Be able to start the full time apprenticeship in September 2017. Exact start date will be communicated closer to the time. So check your diaries and make sure that you are available for the entire experience
