Trainee Underwriter

Dorking, Surrey
£15,500 + performance bonus & 3 year training programme + 22 days holiday, rising to 25 days, pension, plus 8% bonus annually

The successful candidate will be responsible for the contribution of operations within agreed underwriting strategy. You will take personal ownership of drafting quotations and handling proposals. You will need to work as part of team to ensure the communication delivered between intermediaries is of the highest standard.

After 6 months probation you will receive £1000 increase in salary, plus a quarterly increase of 3-4% every quarter for next 2 years based upon performance and 2 salary increases in your final year.

After the initial training has been completed (approx 3-6 month) you will take responsibility for your own case load including fire & theft, windscreen claims and eventually some non-serious personal injury, dealing with solicitors, insurance brokers, loss adjusters and direct contact with customers and third parties.

Main Duties include but are not limited to:
- Research and build your motor underwriting knowledge
- Consider quotation requests and proposals, making amendments to existing policies if required
- Calculate premiums by reference in line with the risk pricing.
- Take responsibility for your own case work and apply effective decision making
- Competently and appropriately handle telephone enquiries.
- Communicate ideas to changes to systems and processes for improvement.
- Work flexibly within the team in a manner in line with the companies values and assist colleagues wherever pressure is greatest to enhance overall team performance.

Skills/Experience/Qualifications:
• 5 GCSE passes or equivalent (grades A-C) including English and Mathematics
• Experience of working in an office
• Excellent communication skills
• Computer skills
