Based out of Billingshurst Library, but working in Crawley locality

This position is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check (formerly Criminal Records Bureau check).

The person in this position must be a confident driver to drive our Bookbus, delivering a specialist mobile library service for preschools and families in the Crawley area. Working alongside the Bookbus Coordinator, they will ensure an excellent service for children, preschool staff, parents and carers who visit the mobile library.

The role includes responsibility for the safe operation of the vehicle, including collecting it from the base in Billingshurst, taking it to Crawley to make its planned visits and returning the vehicle back to its base at the end of the day.

The vehicle is 7.6m length and 3,800kg in weight. The post holder will need a full, clean driving licence with C1 category and preferably a Driver Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC) and excellent driving skills. Additional driver awareness training with our specific vehicle is also provided to the successful candidate.

To be successful in this role you will be an experienced driver and also confident in working with younger children. You should also have excellent interpersonal and customer service skills, and the ability to work as part of a small team.

This is an active role and some lifting will be required (e.g. moving book stock to and from the vehicle).

Timetable:
Mondays – 8.30am-4.30pm
Tuesdays – 8.30am-4.30pm
(to include time to convey the vehicle from/to its base in Billingshurst.)
