West Sussex Trading Standards is an intelligence led service with a current key objective of supporting economic growth within a large county council area. We aim to do this by supporting businesses to compete fairly, but where the market place is distorted by unfair or deceptive practices then we will take appropriate enforcement action.
West Sussex is a great place to live and work and includes the South Downs National Park and a major international airport. Three distinct economic areas provide a truly diverse range of businesses, from industrial parks to rural farming, tourism and retail.
This is an opportunity for a confident and experienced professional to demonstrate how they can make a difference. Your responsibilities will cover the full range of Trading Standards duties across the County including planned interventions, investigations, complaints and enquiries. As a qualified Trading Standards Officer, with recent enforcement experience and competency in food standards your communication, organisational, team working and computer skills should be first class.
If a suitably qualified applicant meeting the Grade 9 or Grade 8 role profile is not received West Sussex is willing to consider opening up this post to a Grade 6 trainee position to the right applicant. If this was the case the minimum requirement is the Chartered Trading Standards Institute (CTSI) accredited university degree or a similar qualifying law degree which offer exemptions in the trading standards professional qualifications framework. The post holder will also be expected to commit to a course of study whilst working for the Service, during which time a series of exams need to be passed and a core skills training portfolio completed. There is an expectation that the post holder will be willing to complete study and portfolio write-ups in their own time.
